WHY IS A FILM TRAILER MADE?

A film trailer is made to help audiences understand the genre of the film and to also raise awareness and interest in the film. Raising awareness is done by marketing the film which is mainly done through the trailer as well as posters, merchandise and online marketing.

From a lot of the films trailers, we as the audience are able to tell what the genre is.
I used the Film Space site to help me understand the genre of the film.
Based on the titles of these films, without watching the trailers I was able to interpret that they are all very different genres from one another.
For me, I believe that The Red Turtle is a comedy film as it is quite a simple yet unique title. Churchill I think is a historical film about the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill and Spider-Man is an action packed, super-hero film.

After watching the trailers:

My guess on THE RED TURTLE was wrong as it turned out to be an animation film about a man who becomes a castaway on a desert island. On this island he finds red turtles whom he becomes friends with as well as a woman. There is not much dialog in the trailer but the animation is stunning. It is by Studio Ghibli whose other films I love such as Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Therefore I would definitely consider watching this film after viewing the trailer and I believe not all animations are made for children.

CHURCHILL was as I expected, a biographical film about Winston Churchill during the war and how he was depicted as a strong leading in a time of danger and peril.

As thought, SPIDER-MAN is a blockbuster, super-hero film with high action and visual content. However, elements of comedy were also woven in which gave a twist to the film and increased its target audience and made the film more engaging.
