WHO ARE TRAILERS AIMED AT?

Different types of people like different types of films, however there are certain features to films which have a wide appeal to groups of people.

To investigate how different types of films make their trailers to attract their target audience, I watched the trailers from My Life as a Courgette, Hampstead and War of the Planet of the Apes and then made notes on them

MY LIFE AS A COURGETTE
After watching this film I believe that the target audience for this film are families or children under 13. This is partly because it is an animated film and animated films are generally aimed more towards younger children, as well as this is has 'feel good vibes' so this is why it would suit families. You can tell that there are morals to the story that the children watching it should learn from and also a film in which children who are being bullied could possibly relate to. It teaches us about love and friendship.

HAMPSTEAD
The target audience for this film is quite broad but I think that mainly couples and people aged 35+. It is a love story between a widow and a man she finds living by himself in the countryside. It would suit an older audience more as it is about real life situations and difficulties that life has, this includes money and housing and love and lost.
WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
The trailer for this film sets out a broad target audience. However, I think the main audience are couples, teenagers, skewed towards men and boys. This is because stereotypically men have more of an interest in violence, weapons and battle which is the main focus in the films trailer. On the other hand, there are elements to the trailer to draw in a female audience such as the young girl whose innocence and frailness stands out.
