WHEN ARE TRAILERS SHOWN?

The trailer must be shown far enough in advance so that it creates a buzz and excitement within its audience for the release but not so early that people forget about the film once it has come out. Most trailers are produced at the same time as the film is being edited.
I watched trailers that are current at the moment and discussed the 'buzz' for each of them.

 SNATCHED
The main talking points for this trailer that create a buzz for the audience is that it is a different sort of traveling, adventure holiday from many of the others. This is because she is going with her mum instead of with her boyfriend or a group of people.

This gives it its comedy vibe as the mother is quite conservative and is obviously very anxious and unsure about everything going on on their travels. The mother and daughter think they are going to Ecuador to visit the beautiful landscapes and natural wonders, however this suddenly gets flipped upside down when they get kidnapped. The trailer is highlighting the bond between the mother and daughter and how it goes to develop throughout their time in South America together as they are put through difficult and dangerous situations.

This will attract a large audience as mothers and daughters in the audience will be able to relate and will also find the comedic aspects to it funny. Many of the target audience would have experienced similar events with gap years and traveling and will also recognise the dangers they are getting themselves into.

Older audiences may be able to relate to the mother more as they will see the misunderstandings the mother has with travel and different cultures as she mistakes 'welcome' for 'whale cum'. As well as this, the mother insists that her daughter covers up in the sun as 'it is very dangerous' but the daughter just asks her why she is dressed as a beekeeper. This type of bickering is something that mothers and daughters go through daily.

This film has a strong feel good vibe as it shows the connection between mother and daughter and shows the power that women have.

This film would be released in the summer as this is when a lot of people go on holiday and will therefore want to see the film as it is also a film about holiday and travel. As well as this a lot of people have more free time in the summer so will be more likely to see it.

WONDER WOMEN
This film shows the empowerment of one woman with elements of comedy and romance. Part of it was set in London so this will attract a British audience.

On top of being the first female superhero action film, it is also directed by a female. Her name is Patty Jenkins, this will draw in the female audience as well as appealing to the traditional superhero audiences. Chris Pine is in the film as a love interest, he is very handsome which will attract a large audience.
As well as tales of love and humor, the film offers huge visual effects creating the spectacle.

This trailer will set out to release a summer blockbuster, drawing in a wide target audience as there are things to attract everyone such as the strong female lead, high action content, humor and thrill.

 THE BEGUILED
The main points from this trailer that the audience are able to pick up on is that the film is made to look quite dark and eerie which will attract an audience who love thriller films. Moreover, it gives a mysterious vibe which will entice a wider audience. The film has a wide range of female actresses with strong female leads, with the director of the film being female as well (Sofia Coppola). The young girls are from a southern boarding school and so anyone has been to a boarding school could be interested in watching the film to see how it is being portrayed.

I believe this film has a wide target audience but is particularly aimed at young adults as the film and trailer were shown in the summer time when young adults have more time to go and see films and children are not in school.
